Festival History

In 1981 the China Grove Board of Trade formed a promotion committee to organize Farmers Day. The promotion committee roster included: Gene Long, Barbara and Charles Toby, Janice and Tony Jenkins, Judy and Fred Haire, Kay and Pete Kluttz, Carole and Tom Brooke, Mary Lee and Jerry McCorkle, and Randy Lassiter. The committee worked for more than a year to plan and establish the first Farmers Day which was held on July 24th 1982.

This special event was organized to honor local farmers in 1982. The festival allowed farmers to sell their produce and it provided a day of fun for our residents with food, crafts and music. Farmers Day has since grown to become one of the best street festivals in North Carolina. Today, colorful booths line Main Street with a variety of arts and craft items, local farmers sell produce and honey, agricultural related displays and information booths, huge antique tractor display, live music, food and kids activities, homemade ice cream are just a few things to tickle your fancy. Farmers Day is held annually the third Saturday in July. Farmers Day offers something for everyone!
